Serif "Out of Business"? - 2004/11/03 13:12 Now, it is 11:10 AM, Wednesday, November 3.

www.Serif.com has been down since Saturday, Oct 30 - 5 days, and counting? - for "database maintenance".

Hmmmm.

Re: Serif "Out of Business"? - 2004/11/03 14:19 The newgroups at news.serif.com – also down over the weekend – were back up on Monday, and Richard Hunt posted to the SerifGeneral NG today that Customer Service told him there are major problems with the e-mail and web systems at present, but they are very much there and can be reached by phone or fax.

Re: Serif "Out of Business"? - 2004/11/03 14:34 For me it's been down since Friday 29th PM
I notice the other serif sites are similarly afflicted ( i.e. freeserifsoftware.com).
I really miss the forum at this time as I have just upgraded to PP10 and WP9 and could do with a helping hand.
I haven't tried ringing them as I am sure they are busy but surely they could adjust the out of service notice to something more informative and as time goes on, something "more believable".

On the plus side (or should the be *****Plus) I have noticed increasing slowness and sevice downs from the Serif site over recent months, and the lack of mutterings here by those better informed than I, so I am still hopeful for the future.

Fingers crossed - Will.

EDIT- Looks like Alfred has got a better slant on it - GOOD.

I guess the obvious answer in the interim is to conduct any such discussions here.

Re: Serif "Out of Business"? - 2004/11/03 15:08 OK Alfred - "here" we go.

Without going into details, on my system, both PP10 and WP9 seem to be suffering from failing to publish as a webpage either local or ftp as a result of "suspect graphic items" causing program to shut down. These graphics have been happily existing in PP8-PP9 files over many re-saves.

If items are removed to the pasteboard or deleted then publishing can be accomplished. This has happened to more than one item, strangely if a clean graphic is imported from an earlier PP document, WP9 and PP10 it will work OK fo a couple of saves and re openings then seems to become corrupt again.
I vaguely remember something similar on the forum and have un selected optimise groups of grahics, to no avail.

Is this something others have noticed since upgrading to these programs or is it unique to my system?

Re: Serif "Out of Business"? - 2004/11/03 19:32 Sorry, Will - I've not encountered that in WP, and I don't use PP.

Do I understand that the program just crashes, with no error messages at all?
