I'm using PhotoPlus 9 and I just love it! Even though I have Photo Shop...I only use it if I need to extract text from a PSD file (Photo Shop Document). I recently was part of a project to create a site for Gegax Management Systems. A design firm was retained to create the look of the site. They produced a PSD file for nearly every page of the site and it was my job to turn the PSDs into .jpg images and build them into the site template and content pages. The site utilizes the Mambo open source content management system...the same CMS used for RoguesPlus.net.
Thanks to Serif and Photo Plus, I have been able to carve a niche for myself in the web development industry as a Mambo developer/technician. I have been able to quit my former "day job" and am doing Mambo development full time now. I would not have been able to do it without PhotoPlus. Template design and content graphics are an absolute must for developing web sites...with or without Mambo. PhotoPlus is so easy to use and produces such quality results it has become my most important tool.
I have noticed some distinct differences between PhotoPlus and PhotoShop, but for the most part, it seems PhotoPlus will do nearly everything PhotoShop can do. It does everything I need it to do...so that is really all that matters to me. One of the ways I use it is for preparing images to use in content on a site. I can set up a standard size image and paste other images as layers, then cut them all to the same shape...say a rectangle with rounded corners. I can add a drop shadow or outer glow to the second layer and by turning the additional layers on one at a time I can export each layer as an image, all with the same filter effects. Look for a tutorial on this some time in the future.
PhotoPlus is a great tool for anyone doing development. I'll have some more examples to post soon. In the meantime...please share with us any sites or graphics you have created using PhotoPlus using the comments feature below this article.Only registered users can write comments.
